As we are hoping to take Omnishambles further afield this summer we are likely to miss the Rock the Boat event. So I’ve set up a (non-)rally with Bembridge Harbour arriving on Friday 11th and leaving on Sunday 13th September, though feel free to extend dates if you wish.
You should book dates on-line to get the standard 5% discount and use the rally code HA119. Select a finger-berth option Duver Marina, as long as you are less than 12.8m; if you are keen to receive a further 5% discount, this is only available if you are willing to raft. So the rally code is really only so the berthing team can keep us as close as feasible. There are three other rallies on that weekend, so would advise not leaving it too late (certainly before Bembridge start to put together berthing plans from the 21st August).
I suggest keeping Friday evening low key. The BBQ’s are all booked out. There are pizza’s available from the cafe – book when you first arrive as they have limited capacity. The Vine is basic pub grub – so don’t expect Fillet of Beef for their Friday evening Steak Night at £9:95.
I’m very happy to write a further chapter of my BOA Air-fryer recipe book and ‘entertain’ all on-board Omnishambles. If we choose the Saturday evening, then I’d expect to split the seating across two boats if numbers exceed 12. I have some menu ideas and the necessary time to practice (and maybe plan dividing up some of the logistics to feed the hungry masses). In return I’d like to suggest that participants may like to make a donation to Bembridge’s chosen charity –The Sophie Rolf Trust, Kiss Puppy. They carry much needed bereavement counselling on the IoW – though I’m hoping my cooking skills are not that bad!
It’s close to Spring tides with HW’s between 12:30 to 14:00. I’m in favour of an early Sunday lunch at the Best Dressed Crab like last year. This would still give those leaving on Sunday the time to make use of the west-flowing tide. The BDC cannot handle big tables, nor split bills by boat names, so be prepared or choose your table partners carefully.
