This may be of interest to anyone planning a passage including a stopover at Ramsgate. I’ve just completed a trip from Hamble to Ipswich; on the way we deciced to nightstop in Ramsgate but had great difficulty in getting in because of severe silting in the outer harbour and approaches. The harbourmaster was very helpful in finding us a space capable of taking 2.2m draft and 16m loa but anyting over about 12m/1.8m could be a problem. If you’re planning to stop there it’s well worth talking to the harbourmaster well in advance to check the current status and make appropriate arrangements.
