I know Volvo are notorious for rip-off prices on their parts. And obviously things like oil and fuel filters are just standard bits from a filter manufacturer. So can anyway suggest a better source for the parts needed for an engine service? An industrial engine or forklift truck specialist perhaps? Ideally near Bristol, but I doubt that p&p from a distant place would be a dealbreaker if the price was right in the first place.
Thanks
November 5, 2009 at 11:27 pm #7994AnonymousGood evening,
I am just looking into this very subject and hope to finalise something over the next few days, currently it looks likely that most of us can save in excess of 50% on our service parts and get them delivered to boot.
Rest assured I will post as soon as I have further news.
Take care,
Paul.November 9, 2009 at 12:33 pm #7999AnonymousI usually get my replacement parts from Keypart (http://www.keypart.com). In addition to being significantly cheaper than my local Volvo agent, their phone support is good if you have any queries.
I recently ordered a set of fuel and oil filters, and some oil. I placed the order at 16:00 and the stuff was at my door at 10:00 the following morning. Regarding prices, I think the totals were about £90 from the Volvo agent and £60 from Keypart (with free delivery).

(Dream Catcher)November 21, 2009 at 9:23 pm #8017AnonymousI haven’t forgotten about this, hopefully I will have some news by the middle of next week.
November 25, 2009 at 9:59 pm #8024AnonymousI took Dream Catcher’s advice. Fuel filter, oil filter, impellor and oil from Keypart: just over £60 with free delivery. Delivery was very fast too, even though it was UPS. Next step is to make a note of the manufacturer part numbers and see if I can improve further next time.
November 26, 2009 at 9:46 am #8026AnonymousI have been trying to finalise a group buying agreement with a Volvo Penta dealership, although they say they are interested and make all the right noises they seem very slow in progressing it any further.
If like me you are happy to use pattern filters, currently the best deals around are from these guys HERE
Their system recognises a large number of the Volvo Penta part numbers and they offer huge savings over the cost of branded filters.
Take care,

Looking for D2-40 filters I’ve tried their on-line search but it doesn’t seem to recognise the VP part ref’s.
Keep up the good work.
JohnNovember 30, 2009 at 11:33 am #8039AnonymousTried again.
Fuel Filters come up OK, but nothing on the Oil Filter or Air Filter. Wouldn’t expect the Air Filter to show, but suspect they have the Oil Filter if i new where to look.
Fuel Filters are 1/4 the price of Keypart!John
November 30, 2009 at 12:32 pm #8040AnonymousHi john,
if you drop them a line via this link here quoting the VP part number (3840525) I am sure they will be able to provide you with the part number of a pattern filter which will suit.
Glad you like the prices….
Cheers
Paul.December 1, 2009 at 7:23 am #8049AnonymousIf it helps anybody, whilst in Stornoway the commercial chandler there contacted Baldwin, I believe a US filter supplier, and they had an equivalent for the D1-30 engine oil filter. Sorry, no number as its on the boat.
Volvo might want you to buy their parts but what do you do when you are in the outer hebrides or somewhere else worldwide and you need service items. Wait for a postal service whilst paying fees in a marina?. Makes the service parts even more expensive. Whats crazy is that Perkins build the engines and have dealers worlwide but they cannot sell the Volvo parts because of Volvo’s policy. Volvo will also not give info to other suppliers to make their parts.
Have you tried sending Volvo a question? Dont bother. They dont reply. You have to go to a dealer. Tried finding a Volvo dealer in Stornoway or a desolate location?
Terrible service. My next boat will not have a Volvo.
December 4, 2009 at 6:48 pm #8062AnonymousFurther to my previous message the supplier in Stornoway advised me that Baldwin BT223 was a cross match for the Volvo D1-30 oil filter 3840525.
I CANNOT CONFIRM THIS IS CORRECT. I WAS JUST TOLD THIS.December 12, 2009 at 12:11 pm #8069AnonymousHi Paul,
Just used your link to “In Line Filters” and bought the fine fuel filter, the water seperator filter and the oil filter for an MD2030D for the grand sum of £12.40 for all three.
That is less than the price of one Volvo parts filter.
Thanks for the link.
Next one we need is much cheaper anodes for 2 blade folding props and saildrive anodes for ropecutters. Volvo price for those is £27.90 and £33.29 respectively.
And don’t ask about the locking tab washer for the prop nut at £2.66!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers
Rick.January 3, 2010 at 7:12 pm #8099AnonymousInline Filters looks like brilliant prices. I’ve just contacted them to ask about an air filter (I couldn’t find it on their website) and then I will be ordering. It’s good to be supporting a Cornish company too.
Now we need to find a cheaper source for water pump impellors, although Keypart aren’t bad.
January 12, 2010 at 8:59 pm #8116AnonymousOn-Line Filters couldn’t do anything about the air filter: it’s a unique Volvo part apparently.
That left the fuel pre-filter as my main priority and I was going to buy another set of everything at the same time. Then I got chatting to my local car accessory shop and I challenged him to beat £1.24 + VAT. He couldn’t quite match it, but a Fram filter for £1.95 was close enough for me.
I’ll post part numbers and info on Hints and Tips.
January 16, 2010 at 9:49 pm #8126AnonymousI tried to fit the fuel filter yesterday and found that Keypart had sent me the wrong one. I’ll pop in to the car accessory place and see if he can provide the right one.
