I have received an e-mail from Bill Montague who owns Haida, a 2003 model Bavaria 36, and has noticed that there were rust stains around the screws on the lockers in the forward cabin. On checking he found that all the screws were mild steel not stainless. When trying to withdraw one, the head broke off.

He wanted you all to be aware of the possibility and it would be interesting to discover if others have also noticed rust staining around screws.

The vast majority of stainless steel isn’t magnetic so you can carry out a quick check with a magnetic screwdriver or normal magnet.

I have a B32 and all my inside locker screw are mild steel.
After a small leak from a stanchion, discovered the cheap screws,
I am gradually changing them all for stainless.
They can be very hard to remove, I have broken a few head of.
