I have recently bought a Bavaria 30 (2006), there is a fuel gauge on the binnacle that does not register a reading, there is also a dual fuel and water gauge below, but only the water level works. I suspect that the sender is at fault but how do I prove this.

I understand that I can check the gauges by crossing wires at the sender connector but which ones. The sender red wire is connects to the cables red, the black to black and the brown sender wire connects to two blues. Any tips would be appreciated.

Has anyone experianced a similar problem?

If you have a multimeter you could measure the resistance of the sender. These normally have a range of 3 ohms to 300 ohms (although models vary). Anything much higher than this indicates a fault. If it reads OK, then suspect the wiring. Note that some units operate in reverse: if you disconnect the sender, then the gauge will show “Full”.
