Does anyone have any tips for greasing /lubricating rudder bearings? I get a bit of a ‘creak’ on mine when the boat is heeled to starboard in choppy conditions. Don’t think it’s anything structural, but don’t seem to be able to find any manufacturers guidance on how to cure. Anyone got any idea’s?

      Thanks

        HI,
There is no way of lubricating bearings. My 32 (and others) have had problems with rudder bearings stiffening up. This is said to be caused by marine growth between rudder stock and bearing but, in my case, it seems to have been swelling of the nylon bearing – I used a flap wheel to give me more clearance – this involved dropping out the rudder when the boat is on a hoist. This has given me two years of low friction but I’m starting to feel a little resistance again this season.

Any problems with using a flapper wheel to do this? this is the second time this tool has been mentioned for this job.
