Not tried it yet but intend to soon as weather warms up

Yup, that’s the Aussie stuff. Didn’t realise you could get it in the UK now.

I have already purchased the Australian hairline-fix in colour snow white as my first guess. I will report later if this was the correct choice.
I still wonder what the official Bavaria colour is e.g.RAL number or similar

Can you let me know what you think of it. I’d be very interested in your views on it.

My boat had some hairline cracks done when it was quite new (people who commissioned it didn’t do the shroud plate struts up tight enough and got cracks around the shroud bases). It looked perfect when done, but the repaired bits are now visibly more yellow than the rest of the boat. So even if it looks right initially, it is likely to fade/yellow at a different rate to the original.

I seem to remember some stuff marketed in the USA specifically for hairline cracks. I remember that it wasn’t cheap, but apparently did a good job and was easy to use (brush into the crack, wipe off excess, polish when dry).

Can’t remember the name, but might be worth a look.

Just found it. It’s Australian and called MAGIC EZY http://www.magicezy.com/products/hairline-fix/

Can’t help you with the sizes, but it might also be worth talking to Bruntons about their Autoprop. It seem to get a good rep from those who have them.

Don’t come to a Solent Marina then if you think that’s a lot. You’re probably looking at £8-15k per year in the solent, depending on the location.

There are lots of cheaper options though, but you’ll need to ask around.

Try posting on the YBW forum and ask. There’s usually someone on there who knows someone.

    Best wishes

No idea on a 34, but my holding tanks are hehind the big door in the heads (the one above the counter top).

Just get an 096 car battery from your local motor factor (or off ebay).

in reply to: Removing fuel tank on a Bavaria 33? #9883

It’s a massive job. The tank is bonded into the hull before any of the furniture is dropped-in so you have to start cutting it up to get it out.

I would recommend that you get some Marine 16 treatment and see if that sorts it, and if not get the tank emptied and flushed through.

Try this stuff. It works well:- http://www.seamarknunn.com/acatalog/marine-16-diesel-bug-treatment-100ml-4240.html?gclid=CPGX0PKhhMoCFSoUwwodoJEDew

I have to say that it sounds to me like your engine might be running a bit hot. Stick a temp guage on the pipes and see what it says, it should be between 85 and 90 degrees.

As an aside, if you want to get rid of green from teak (or in fact anything else such as grp, ropes, sprayhood, etc.) get some Patio Magic.

You just mix it with water, put it in a pump sprayer, spray it on, and leave it. A week later all the green will have gone and it’ll stay not-green for at least 6 months.

What you want is uPVC Solvent Cleaner from Toolstation.

    Brings it up a treat.

It also works well to take dirty marks out of gelcoat.

in reply to: Damaged Hatch #9857

I cracked one of mine by dropping the dinghy on it. I’ve just done a duct tape job on it for the mo to stop it leaking, while I work out what to do.

The new hatches are silly money (about £400), but I’m not sure how viable it would be to replace the actylic. I suspect that you’d have to replace the seal at the same time, and that there’ll almost certainly be a screw that won’t undo or sheers off.

I’d be interested to hear what you decide to do, and if you replace the acrylic, where you get it from and how easy it was to do.

Sorry I can’t be of more help.

    Bob
